Back to School/Back to Routine. A Fresh Start for the New Season

After a whole month of travelling in August I feel grateful for all the quality time we had with old friends and family. We visited new places and went back to some familiar ones where we could explore or just relax on the beach. I even went out partying twice which after the past year feels like a big thing for me. These moments made the month special and gave me memories I will take with me into the new season.

You know that slightly confused moment in the morning when you open your eyes and for a second you do not know where you are. That happened to me almost every morning. But I am not here to complain because the whole month was simply incredible and I enjoyed every bit of it especially after the spring and early summer from May to July were all about my illness and my recovery.

  1. Eating habits

I will not deny that in August I let myself enjoy life to the fullest. After months of strict eating and no alcohol because of my gallbladder and pancreatitis I was finally able to live a normal life again. I celebrated that with more food and drinks than usual and yes I gained a few kilos back but I like to see the bright side because for example my face now has fewer wrinkles. Life just tastes very well again without feeling any pain and that is fantastic!

Summer was full of indulgence and I do not regret a single meal or glass of wine. It was part of celebrating life after a difficult period and I needed that joy. But now I want to bring back a balance that makes me feel light and energetic. My plan is to enjoy good food without the excess and to choose meals that nourish me while still tasting amazing. This means more fresh seasonal vegetables warming homemade soups and simple treats that satisfy without overdoing it.

2. Weight Training

This is something I actually managed to keep up during the whole of August. Since my regular gym routine was almost completely missing last month I decided to take my 3 kilo weights with me everywhere I travelled and not just for decoration. I trained with them almost every other day because I truly believe our bodies need muscle to stay healthy and strong. And let us be honest it is also aesthetically pleasing.

Over time I have come to trust weight training more than endless cardio. Of course the truth is probably somewhere in the golden middle as it is with most things in life. I am not here to give detailed fitness advice because there are plenty of people who do this full time and do it incredibly well. What I want to share is the importance of consistency. Do it on your good days and on your not so good days too. The feeling afterwards will always be worth it.

3. Staying Organized Especially at Home

This is probably my biggest challenge because I have to admit I am naturally a rather messy girl. And when you live in a small apartment with two other people and a cat it is even more difficult to keep everything in order. Small spaces get messy quickly and it sometimes feels like the moment you tidy up one corner another one is already in chaos.

There is one golden rule that I am really trying to follow now and it is this:

If you take something out put it back afterwards!

It sounds incredibly simple but living by it every day requires real consistency (again). The trick is not to wait until things pile up but to deal with them in the moment. A cup you just used a sweater you tried on a book you finished reading all of these should go back to their place immediately.

Another key for me is making sure that everything has its own home. I recently invested in several new storage boxes which I will link below. They help so much especially in a small apartment where every bit of space matters. And for the first time ever I packed away my summer clothes so that my autumn and winter beauties have enough room in the wardrobe. This small change made my closet look more spacious and much easier to keep tidy. It also gives me a sense of calm every time I open the door and see everything neatly in place.

4. Returning to Hiking

The benefits of being close to nature and moving your body outdoors probably do not need much explanation. In the past hiking was a big part of my life. I used to go with friends on most weekends and there were periods when we covered more than one hundred kilometres in just a few days. Those adventures brought so much joy fresh air laughter and the kind of tiredness that feels deeply satisfying.

Now my hikes look a little different because I always go with my seven year old daughter. Our distance is usually around seven to eight kilometres each time which is naturally much less than before but still so much better than doing nothing at all. And it is not only about the movement. I like to think that she is learning one of the simplest and cheapest ways to take care of her mental and physical health. Walking through forests listening to the sound of leaves under our feet watching the light change between the trees these are things that stay with you.

For me hiking in spring and autumn is the best. The weather is cooler the air feels fresher and the colors are simply beautiful. I also love hiking when the weather is misty because the landscape has a unique atmosphere that cannot be compared to anything else. There is something about stepping into the forest on a crisp autumn morning that instantly clears my mind and makes me feel both grounded and inspired. My goal this season is to go hiking as often as possible so that it becomes a natural part of our life again.

5. Going to More Concerts

I love music and I cannot imagine my life without it. Live music has a magic that nothing else can replace. The sound the lights and the energy of the crowd make every song feel more alive. I have already planned 4 concerts until the end of the year and I cannot wait for them. For me concerts are little celebrations of life and I want to enjoy as many as I can.
